PRIMARY PURPOSE OF ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT: The Aging and Adult Services Unit provides specialized services necessary to fulfill the legal mandates of North Carolina in assuring that adults who are disabled and/or aged, fragile or vulnerable are protected and receive services to remove the factors placing them in danger.

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: The delivery of these program services include services to disabled adults to protect from abuse, neglect or exploitation. At-Risk case management interventions, SA In-Home and community based services, Meals on Wheels, group care (monitoring and licensing of group homes and adult care homes), placement services to both group and long- term care, guardianship as disinterested public agents, representative payee services, adult daycare/day health monitoring and certification, services to the blind, personal care case management and designated services to enhance and support both foster living and independent living arrangements are some of the duties this Social Worker may perform.

KNOWLEDGES. SKILLS and ABILITIES: Considerable knowledge of social work principles, techniques and practices and their application to individual casework group work and community problems. Knowledge of the psychosocial, socioeconomic and behavioral problems and their treatment. Knowledge of governmental and private organizations and community resources. Knowledge of laws, regulations and policies which govern the program. General knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes and their treatment is required in certain programs or settings. Skill in establishing rapport with a client and applying techniques of assessing psychosocial, behavioral and psychological aspects of client’s problem. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrative superiors, members of case load and their families, and with civics medical, social and religious organizations. Ability to train or instruct lower-level social workers, students or interns. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from an accredited school of Social Work; OR Bachelor’s degree in Human Service field from an accredited college or university and one year directly related experience; OR Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and two years directly related experience.

TRAINING/EXPERIENCE: Ongoing education and training are strongly encouraged within the Agency. State required training will be provided. Experience with Windows and Excel preferred.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must submit official college transcripts. Must have NC Driver’s license and access to a vehicle. We prefer to hire Social Workers who are certified by the North Carolina Certification Board for Social Work.
