Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:
The Social Work Division encompasses all Social Work Programs in the agency (Child Welfare, Adult Services and Work First). This Division provides essential Social Work Services to a variety of individuals and families to meet their needs for protection, self-sufficiency and quality of life.

Primary Purpose of Position:
Assess, develop and implement a training program for new and experienced Social Workers and Social Work Supervisory staff. Assess training needs of the organization by using a formalized tool and in informal ways. The formalized approach calls for collecting data and then analyzing that data and developing a training plan for the year. The informal approach takes in personal request of individual managers, program managers, supervisors, etc. Plan and develop training sessions/materials to meet the training need of the organization. Research subject matters, develop curriculums, develop group exercises to enhance the training and provide training agendas. Conduct training sessions for primarily Child Welfare, Adult Services and Work First Program staff but will also include entire staiffor some topics.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of training theory, principles and techniques. Ability to interpret, apply and communicate a variety of policies, procedures and regulations. Ability to exercise sound judgment in assessing training needs, development of objectives, recommending training goals and evaluating student learning. Ability to develop course outlines and lesson plans. Ability to adapt and communicate information to a wide range of audiences and situations. Skills in counseling and relating to others.

Minimum Training and Experience:
Graduation from a four-year college or university and three years of experience in a Human Service Program, counseling or training in the subject matter specified, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience to demonstrate required skills and knowledge. Typing and computer familiarity desired. Experience with Windows 98/2000 and Excel prefened.

Additional Training and Education:
Ongoing education and training are strongly encouraged within the Agency. State required training will be provided. This position requires an extensive training period be completed prior to assuming a caseload. No formal training or education, no matter how comprehensive will prepare a social worker for his/her job. In addition to a comprehensive education, the social worker must have life experience to be fully prepared to make quick decisions regarding policy by using one’s instinct.

Additional Requirements:
Must submit official college transcript. Must have N.C. Drivers License and access to a vehicle.
