Position: GIS Coordinator

General Description of Duties
Work is performed under the general leadership of the Information Technology Director with considerable amount of independent judgment necessary. Incumbent is responsible for coordination and implementation of County wide GIS needs.

Incumbent will work with others to coordinate and oversee forthcoming data conversion projects. Tasks will include training, data and database management, as well as development and recommendations of mapping software and products. Incumbent will also be responsible for project coordination and related communication with County Departments and outside entities in order to produce effective relational data reports to coincide with map surfaces with associated charts and graphs as needed; Participates in compiling and presenting survey and research findings in graphic, pictorial, cartographic and technical drawing format;

Incumbent will serve as system administrator for GIS by resolving hardware and software problems related to GIS. A working knowledge of principles and practices associated with ESRI Software is required. Incumbent will work with ESRI’s ArcGIS Desktop suite of applications, as well as ArcIMS, ArcGIS Server application; ArcSDE software in a Microsoft SQL Server environment.

Duties directly related to 911
Maintain and update the geo-database and associated layers for all map layers utilized by the 9-1-1 CAD and other emergency services departments;
Implement map conversions and updates of all mapping data to each Public Safety Answering Point within the county;
Participate in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster, as well as during disaster preparedness training exercises.

Minimum Qualifications for Education and Experience
Bachelor or Associate degree in GIS, Geography, Cartography, CAD or related field supplemented by a minimum of three years maintaining computerized land records using GIS/CAD or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Extensive work experience using Microsoft desktop operating systems and applications is required. A combination of Education and experience may be considered.
