Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit: The Family and Children's Services Section focuses on enhancing the welfare of the children in the county by promoting their physical safety, emotional, educational and social well-being.  This is accomplished through coordination of services with other agencies, the court system and by a cooperative effort with all Title XX services.


Primary Purpose of the Position: The Social Worker in this position is responsible for provisions of services to Foster Care children and their families.  Services are provided because the child/children cannot remain in the home or the child/children receive services to enable him/her to remain in the home of the parents or relatives.


Knowledges, Skills and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of social work principles, techniques and practices and their application to complex casework, group work and community problems.  Considerable knowledge of a wide range of medical, behavioral and/or psychosocial problems and their treatment theory.  Considerable knowledge of family and group dynamics and a range of intervention techniques, governmental and private organizations, and resources in the community, laws, regulations and policies which govern the program.  General knowledge of the methods and principles of casework supervision and training.  Skill in establishing rapport with a client and in applying techniques or assessing psychosocial, behavioral and psychological aspects of client's problems.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with members of case load and their families, as well as civic, legal, medical, social and religious organizations.  Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work effectively. 


Minimum Training and Experience Requirements: Master's degree in Social Work from an accredited school of social work; OR Bachelor's degree in Social Work from an accredited school of social work and completion of the Child Welfare Collaborative (Child Welfare positions only); OR Bachelor's degree in Social Work from an accredited school of social work and one year directly related experience; OR Master's degree in counseling in a Human Services field and one year of Social Work or Counseling; OR Bachelor's degree in a Human Services feild from an accredited college or university and two years directly related experience; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and three years of directly related experience. 


Training/Experience: Ongoing education and training are strongly encouraged within the Agency.  State required training will be provided.  This position requires that an extensive training period be completed prior to assuming a caseload.  Experience with Windows and Excel preferred.

Additional requirements: Must submit official college transcripts.  Must have NC Driver's license and access to a vehicle.  Applicants must have a clean driving record with no more than three (3) points showing on current DMV record.
