PRIMARY PURPOSE OF ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT: The Family and Children’s Services Section focuses on enhancing the welfare of the children in the county by promoting their physical safety, emotional, educational and social well-being.  This is accomplished through coordination of services with other agencies, the court system and by a cooperative effort with all Title XX services.  The Child Protective Services Investigations/In-Home Teams are set up to provide Intake, Investigation, Emergency Intervention and Follow –up to reports of Child Abuse, Neglect or Dependency in accordance with NC General Statute-7A.
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:  The primary purpose of this position is to deliver direct supervision and guidance to Social Workers who provide Child Protective Services to families with children under the age of 18 years.  This worker is responsible for the assignment of cases and the coordination of services provided.  In order to provide technical direction this worker must communicate with each employee on a continual basis through case review and consultation.  Frequent communications with the Social Work Program Manager, Program Administrator and Director provide the unit with necessary managerial support. 
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS and ABILITIES:  Knowledge of methods and principles of casework supervision and training.  Considerable knowledge of social work principles, techniques and practices and their application specific casework and community problems.  Considerable knowledge of behavioral and socioeconomic problems and their treatment and governmental and private organizations and community resources.  Considerable knowledge of behavioral and socioeconomic problems and their treatment and governmental and private organizations and community resources.  Considerable knowledge of the laws, regulations and policies which govern Social Work Programs.  Ability to supervise, train or orient lower-level Social Workers, students, interns or other staff.  Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work effectively.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:  Master’s degree from an accredited school of social work and two years of social work or counseling experience; OR  a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of social work and three years of social work or counseling experience; OR a Master’s Degree in a human services field or related curriculum including at least 15 semester hours in courses related to social work or counseling and four years of social work or counseling; OR Graduation from a four-year college or university and five years of experience in Rehabilitation counseling, Pastoral Counseling or a related human services field providing experience in the techniques of casework, group work or community organization; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:  Ongoing education and training are strongly encouraged within the Agency.  State required training will be
provided.  Experience with Windows and Excel preferred.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must submit official college transcripts.  Must have NC Driver’s license and access to a vehicle. Must have a clean driving record with no more than three points showing on DMV record. 
We prefer to hire Social Workers who are certified by the North Carolina Certification Board for Social Work
