Family Financial Support Print

This Family Financial Support Division provides individuals with Medicaid, North Carolina Health Choice and Food assistance. Medicaid is a health insurance program for those whose income is so low that they cannot afford health care costs.  Eligible individuals may receive medical services such as routine and preventative care, inpatient and outpatient hospital care and prescriptions.

These are the Medicaid Programs:

Medicaid for Families with Dependent Children: Medical coverage for single parents or couples with children under age 19 in their household or for children ages 19 through age 20.

Medicaid for Infants and Children:  Medical coverage for children under the age of 19 whose parents’ income is below certain income limits.

Medicaid for Pregnant Women:  Medical coverage for pregnant women.

North Carolina Health Choice: Children under age 19 may qualify for free or low cost health insurance if they are uninsured and if the family income is higher than the MA limits.  The coverage is similar to that of Medicaid.

MAF D:  Covers family planning services only; must be ineligible for all other Medicaid programs; for men ages 19-60 and for women ages 19-55.

HSF and IAS: Medical assistance for Foster Children and special needs adopted children.

Food and Nutrition Services: Provides Food Assistance to low-income households. Eligibility for Medicaid and Food assistance is determined by many factors such as income, resources, citizenship and medical needs, etc.  Applications for food assistance are completed in the agency.  Customers may apply for Medicaid in person or by mail.
