WHO: Haywood County Senior Games are open to all North Carolina seniors who are 55 years of age and better! Participants must be a NC resident for a minimum of three consecutive months per year.

PURPOSE: Haywood County Senior Games offers those 55 years of age and better a chance to “come out and play” competitively for medals and have a great time doing so! It provides an opportunity for participants to compete in a variety of athletic events as well as a variety of visual, heritage, literary, and performing arts.

ATHLETIC EVENTS: Competition is among those of the same sex and participants will compete against those in their age groups: 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89, and 90+. Age is determined as of 12/31/08.

ART EVENTS: Competition is among participants according to sub-category (i.e. painting, photography, poems, dancing, etc.).

DATES: Haywood County Senior Games take place April 28 - May 22, 2008

FEES: Senior Games and SilverArts registration fee: $10

  • Golf: Cart & green fees vary depending upon Waynesville Country Club membership

  • Bowling: $ 7.00 per competition

  • Additional fees are paid at the competition locations the day of the event.

AWARDS: Medals will be presented to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each athletic & art event at the Closing Ceremonies. Each athlete or artist will receive one medal for each place. Additional awards will be in recognition only.

CANCELLATIONS: Games Officials reserve the right to cancel an event due to insufficient registration and/or combine age categories for competition purposes.

INCLEMENT WEATHER: Games Officials reserve the right to cancel or postpone events due to inclement weather or unusual or extenuating circumstances. There will be no refunds for a canceled or postponed event.

ATHLETES: Please wear your t-shirt while competing!

STATE FINALS:

  • Athletics – 1, 2, & 3rd place

- Golfers must place 1st, 2nd, 3rd and meet a minimum performance score to qualify for State Finals

  • Silver Arts

- Performance Best In Show

- Heritage/Visual – 1st, 2nd

- Literary – 1st Place

  • Entry Forms, deadlines and additional information will be given to eligible participants at the Closing Ceremonies.

Senior Games are endorsed and sanctioned by the North Carolina Senior Sports Classic.
