Commissioners To Vote on Proposed Budget June 7th


A Work Session on the Proposed County Budget for Fiscal Year 2010-11 will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, May 4th, in the Historic Courtroom of the Haywood County Courthouse in Waynesville. Commissioners are expected to vote on the budget during their regular meeting scheduled for 9 a.m., Monday, June 7th in the Historic Courtroom.


On May 17, Assistant County Manager Marty Stamey presented the proposed budget to the Board of Commissioners. The proposed $65,934,562 budget represents a 2.5 percent decrease from the current fiscal year budget.

Some of the recommendations in the proposed budget include:

  • No increase in taxes
  •  Maintaining funding to Haywood County Schools and Haywood Community College at current levels, including capital appropriation
  • A reduction in Work Force of 2.4 Full Time Equvalency postions (equivilant to a 40-hour work week) funded through the General Fund; and an addition 15 FTEs funded through Solid Waste)
  • Maintaining no funding to non-mandated nonprofit organizations
