New animal welfare program begins on HCTV Print

Second Chances, a monthly television program designed to provide information on animal control and animal welfare issues, will premier at 8 p.m., Thursday, August 12th, on HCTV, the Haywood County Government Access Channel.

Each month, Second Chances will feature staff members from the Haywood County Animal Shelter, and volunteers from the Haywood Animal Welfare Association and Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation, who will talk about current activities and programs, such as HAWA’s successful spay and neuter program and Sarge’s animal adoption efforts. Both programs set records in 2009 and helped drop the number of euthanized animals at the shelter below 50 percent for the first time.

In addition, Second Chances will feature some of the animals currently available for adoption from the shelter and will provide tips on how to take better care of pets.

The August edition of Second Chances will provide an overview of the shelter and the role volunteers play in caring for the animals. In addition to Thursday’s airing at 8 p.m., the program will be repeated at 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. each Saturday and Sunday.

HCTV is available on Channel 11 on the Charter Communications cable system and Channel 2 on the Carolina Mountain cable system. Second Chances will also be available online on the Haywood County website,
