Registration ends Friday, April 23 for the 2010 Haywood County Senior Games. Participants can register from 8 a.m. to Noon at the Haywood County Recreation and Parks office, located at the County Office Building, 81 Elmwood Way in Waynesville. 

 

The one-time registration fee is $10 and includes a T-shirt.  Participants must live in North Carolina for a minimum of three consecutive months per calendar year.  The events kickoff on Monday, May 3 with Opening Ceremonies and conclude with the SilverArts Performances and Closing Ceremonies on May 21.

 

There are several athletic events to participate in including bocce, horseshoes, golf, tennis, swimming, billiards, bowling, track events and many more.  Competition is among those of the same gender and participants compete in specific five-year age groups.  Those that finish in the top 3 in their specific age group will qualify for State Finals to be held in Raleigh on September 27-October 3.

 

North Carolina Senior Games is the statewide Senior Olympics program that motivates participants to stay active and healthy.  Senior Games offers 64 athletic and arts events. Senior Games’ approach to wellness is designed to challenge individuals at their own levels.

 

Other programs that are available through NCSG include: SilverArts, celebrating the creative talents of North Carolina's senior artists and SilverStriders, the national award winning walking program.  NCSG is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing year-round health promotion and education for adults 55 years of age and better. NCSG is sponsored statewide by the North Carolina Division of Aging and Adult Services.
