General Description of Position

The Medical Office Assistant should be capable of performing all duties related to admission and discharge of patients for the Wellness Center. This will include assisting patients with pre-authorization, e.g., Worker’s Compensation. The MOA may perform secretarial and receptionist duties that include greeting all patients and visitors, answering telephones, taking messages, following up on messages; scheduling all physical exams, injury evaluations and drug screening appointments and rescheduling or adjusting the schedule as required. They will also be required to run reports out of Meditech for chart review and statistics. Duties also include processing medical record copies to appropriate locations with the responsibility of being sure to have the record countersigned by the physician or physician assistant. The MOA is required to order supplies used in the clinic in line with the department budget.

 

Under general supervision, but according to established procedure, will be responsible for overall collection of all drug testing/breath alcohol testing performed in the clinic. They will also assist the physician assistant or physician in basic nursing duties such as obtaining brief histories and chief complaints from patients, assist with procedures, administer medications, drawing blood samples and review discharge instructions with patients. The Medical Office Assistant must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in the clinic. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principals of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the clinic’s policies and procedures.

 

As a provider of healthcare, the Medical Office Assistant will treat patients of all age groups. These age groups are defined as follows:

 

Neonates......             0 - 28 days                             Adolescents ……                12 - 18 years

Infants …….             29 days – 1 year                   Adults…………..  18 – 65 years

Pediatrics….              1 – 12 years                           Geriatrics……….  Over 65 years

 

Minimum Training and Experience

 

A.            Education and Training: Graduation of Medical Assistant with Medical Assistant

certification preferred.

 

B.             Experience: Ability to concentrate, and pay close attention to detail when collecting

blood samples, drug tests and assisting with patient care.

 

Interpersonal skills necessary to greet and provide drug testing to county employees and patients who come to the clinic for such services.

 

Ability to walk and stand for up to 60% of work time and ability to stoop, lift files weighing less than 10 lbs. for approximately 10% of work time. Ability to take vital signs, draw blood, collect urine drug specimens, and obtain medical histories. Must be able to give immunizations and injections. Will assist with suturing, casting, foreign body removal, and dressing changes.

                               

C.             Affiliations: Medical Assistant Association preferred.

 

Work Hours/Benefits

This is a permanent part-time position Monday through Wednesday and Friday 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon, and Thursdays from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. (Pro-rata benefits including Board of County Commissioner Approved holidays). 

 

Salary

The pay grade assigned to this position is 57 with a base salary of $11.50 per hour (DOE).
