Health Department extends clinic hours for certain services Print
New patient management system also coming on line

To provide better customer service, the Haywood County Health Department is now offering extended clinic hours for certain types of services.

On Mondays and Wednesdays, clinic hours will be 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for services related to foreign travel, adult immunizations, and some family planning. Patients may request to be seen during these extended hours when they call to make their appointment.

“The Health Department is attempting to change its services to better meet the needs of our residents, but do it in a way that is practical,” said Carmine Rocco, Health Director for Haywood County. “I think these are positive steps in the right direction.”

In addition, the Health Department will begin phasing in a new patient management system over the next two months.  The Health Information System will replace the department’s current system and is offered to local health departments free of expense by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

Health department staff will begin converting to the system on May 24 and the process will continue through June. Because of the training demands placed on staff for the new system, the department will temporarily reduce the number of appointments during this period so as to allow staff time to train, after which the department expects to return scheduling to normal.

“Our decision to move to a new patient management system was based on two questions: how can we better meet the needs of the residents of Haywood County and how can we be more cost effective to save every dollar possible?” said Rocco. “I have no doubt that this system is the best answer to both of those questions.”
