Health Department offering sports, kindergarten physicals Print

The Haywood County Health Department is now offering physicals for children entering sports programs, camps and kindergarten.

The limited physicals will satisfy all the requirements for children to participate in their selected activity and are available for a flat fee of $50 per child for sports programs and camps and $65 for kindergarten physicals.

Health Department Nursing Director Julia Plemmons said the Health Department is offering the new service to give parents and caregivers more options to obtain the required physicals during a busy time of year.

“We have received many calls from parents and caregivers trying to find someone to provide this service in order for a child to participate in an activity in youth league or camp,” Plemmons said.  “With so much going on between end of school activities and summer activities, it can be difficult to get the physicals done before the new school year starts.”

Parents who have Medicaid or Health Choice may obtain physicals for their children through the Health Department’s Child Health Clinic. For persons without insurance or some other form of co-pay, the physicals are available on a sliding scale fee of 0% to 100%, based on income and family size.
