PRIMARY PURPOSE OF ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT: The Medical Support Services Division consists of the Medical Support Services Section, Community Resource Unit, Program Integrity and Meals on Wheels.  This position is assigned to the Medical Support Services Section.

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:  This worker is responsible for performing the two functions of intake and determination of

new applications for the four Income Maintenance programs of Medical Assistance to the Aged, Blind and Disabled, including all sub-

categories, County Special Assistance, Community Alternatives Program (CAP); Medicaid Long Term Care program and the Food and

Nutrition Services program.  Will also perform the function of eligibility re-determination or review of the recipient’s case on a periodic

basis in order to re-verify the recipient’s eligibility for continued participation.  The Food and Nutrition Services Program consists of all

individuals who are aged, blind, disabled and/or age 50 or over.

KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS and ABILITIES:  For IMC-I-Graduation from an accredited Associated Degree Program in Human Services

Technology, Social Services Associate, Paralegal Technology, Business Administration, Secretarial Science, or a closely related

curriculum; OR Graduation from high school and two years of paraprofessional, clerical, or other public contact experience which

include negotiating, performance of mathematical or legal tasks with at least one year of such experience being in an Income

Maintenance program; OR Graduation from high school and three years of paraprofessional, clerical or other public contact experience

which include negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, the gathering and compiling of data, the analysis of data and/or the

performance of mathematical or legal tasks; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.

 

Considerable knowledge of the program/area(s) of assignment; general knowledge of all agency and community programs and

services which could affect the client/applicant; good mathematical reasoning and procedures; ability to communicate with clients/

applicants, the public at large, and public officials to obtain data, and to explain and interpret rules, regulations and procedures;

ability to instruct and to evaluate the work of lower level employees; and ability to perform caseworker functions within structured

time frames.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: One year of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker or an

equivalent combination of training and experience. Will consider Work against for position.  Work against salary for IMC-I is

$26,132.66-Pay Grade 61.  Position requires one year of eligibility experience to fully qualify at the IMC-II level.

TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:  Experience with Windows and Excel preferred.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:  Must have NC Driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
