General Description of Position: The purpose of this position is to appraise real property for tax purposes for the office of the HAYWOOD COUNTY TAX ASSESSOR.  The position is responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date appraisal records and to perform related work as required.  The position works within a general outline of work to be performed and develops work methods and sequences under general supervision. 

Minimum Training and Experience:  Position requires Associates degree or formal training, special courses or self-education that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college education or specialized advanced training as well as special requirements listed below.

Special Requirements:           

Level 1 Appraiser 

·        Applicant must possess a valid North Carolina Driver’s License.

·        Must successfully complete course and pass examination in Property Tax Listing and Assessing (Machinery Act)  and IAAO 101 (Fundamentals of Real Property Appraisal) within two (2) years of employment.

·        Must obtain the following within two (2) years of employment:   Certification as Real Property Appraiser by the Ad  Valorem Tax Division of the North Carolina Department of Revenue.

Work Hours/Benefits: This is a regular full time position Monday through Friday.  All county benefits such as health, dental, drug, life, retirement, 401(k), vacation and sick leave. 

Salary: The pay grade assigned to this position is grade 64 and salary range $29822 – $44734.
