PRIMARY PURPOSE OF ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT:  The Child Support Enforcement Unit ensures that all children who are entitled to Child Support and medical insurance coverage receives these benefits.

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:  To ensure that parents support their children to the best of their ability.  Location of absent parents, establish paternity, child support orders and medical insurance for minor children by conducting interviews with applicants, locating and interviewing the absent parent to bring about the establishment of paternity and support either on a voluntary basis or by court action.

KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS and ABILITIES:  Thorough knowledge of the Child Support Enforcement Program and applicable legal
procedures; Considerable ability to interview clients, absent parents and related sources, and to investigate cases; Considerable
ability to organize, analyze, and summarize case information; Basic math skills; Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with clients and absent parents, location resources, offices of the Clerk of Court, Magistrates, District Attorney, Sheriff, other court officials and private attorneys.  Significant knowledge of office or work unit practices, procedures, and methods.  Significant knowledge of and ability to use correct grammar, vocabulary, spelling and office terminology to compose and/or proofread correspondences, reports and other materials.  Ability to use courtesy and tact in performing public contact and communication duties that may be sensitive in nature.  Ability to organize the work and must be able to work under stress. 

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:  Four year degree and six months experience in eligibility, investigative,
judiciary, or legal work that provides knowledge, skills and abilities need to perform the work; OR an Associate degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Law Enforcement, or closely related degree and two years of experience in eligibility, investigative, judiciary, or legal work that provides knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform the work; OR Graduation from high school and three years of experience in eligibility, investigative, judiciary, or legal work that provides knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform the work; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:  Ongoing education and training are strongly encouraged within the Agency.  Experience with
Windows and Excel preferred.

Child Support Agent I-Pay Grade 63-Salary-$28,538.51

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must submit official college transcripts.  Must have NC Driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
