Coping with the fuel shortage Print
News - Latest

For the last few days, citizens throughout Haywood County have had increased difficulties locating fuel. Based on contacts with local fuel distributors, county officials believe this situation will improve gradually over the next two weeks. In the meantime, fuel shipments will continue to arrive in Haywood County on a daily basis; but individual stations are likely to continue to experience shortages.

As we all work together to cope with this short-term fuel shortage, we urge citizens to take the following steps:

  • Please DO NOT put fellow citizens at risk by calling 9-1-1 to inquire about fuel supplies.
  • Please conserve where possible. Look for ways to carpool, consolidate trips and cancel unnecessary trips. For a good list of fuel conservation ideas, click here to go to the U.S. Department of Energy website.
  • Use this current fuel shortage to discover Haywood Public Transit. For information on routes, fares and times, call 452-1447, ext. 120 or visit their web page, www.haywoodtransit.com

County officials are confident that we will have enough fuel to keep emergency services, law enforcement, and other essential services going. All non-emergency County staff have been asked to carpool, combine trips and limit non-essential travel.
