Description of Duties:  This position functions within the Management Support Section of the Health Department.  The primary purpose of the position is to perform interpretation services for the Hispanic population in the Women’s Infant and Children (WIC), Child Service Coordination (CSC), Maternal Care Coordination, Prenatal, Dental and Health Education programs.  This position offers oral interpretation and sight translation, which is the oral interpretation of a written text.  The position requires the ability to maintain confidentiality. 

Examples of Duties:*         Interpreter services are performed in the clinical setting.  Requires knowledge of medical terminology in both languages and familiarity with medical procedures.*         Serves as community interpreter providing interpreter services in a health care setting and home environments.  As a community interpreter this position demonstrates considerable oral and written fluency in both languages.  The community interpreter is the vital link that ensures the accurate and complete exchange of information between the public service provider and the client.*         Ensures that provider and client are communicating effectively.  The role of the interpreter is to be the voice of the provider and the client.*         Must observe Health and Human Services ethical standards and agency policies by keeping strict confidentiality.*         Relieves the receptionist and switchboard operator as scheduled.*         Other duties may include clerical support for various programs. 

Minimum Education and Experience: High school graduate or GED and one year of experience preferably in a health care or human services setting, demonstrating a fluency in English and the foreign language(s) necessary to successfully perform assigned duties.
