The Board of County Commissioners of Haywood County will hold a public hearing at 7:00 PM on July 24th, 2008 at the Haywood Community College Regional High Technology Center in Waynesville, Haywood County Haywood County North Carolina.  The purpose of the public hearing is to consider the following issues related to Haywood County’s fire districts:

  1. Extension of the Big Cove, Camp Branch and South Waynesville Fire Service Districts to add territory to the present Big Cove, Camp Branch and South Waynesville Fire Service District boundaries in or near the Waynesville township, pursuant to the “County Service District Act of 1973”, G.S. 153A-300 et seq.
  2. Consolidation of the Big Cove, Camp Branch and South Waynesville Fire Service Districts as extended into one service district pursuant to G.S. 153A-304 to be known as the Waynesville Rural Fire Service District. If the existing fire service districts are consolidated along with the proposed annexations to the districts, the real and personal property therein will be subject to taxation as necessary (not to exceed $.06 per $100 valuation) to finance the proposed service.  Big Cove, Camp Branch and South Waynesville Fire Service Districts currently are taxed at the proposed rate.
  3. Extension of the Central Haywood Fire Service District to add territory to the present Central Haywood Fire Service District boundaries in the Clyde (community or township), pursuant to the “County Service District Act of 1973”, G.S. 153A-300 et seq.  If the proposed land is annexed to the district, the real and personal property therein will be subject to taxation as necessary (not to exceed $.10 per $100 valuation) to finance the proposed service.
  4. Extension of the Crabtree/Ironduff Fire Service District to add territory to the present Crabtree/Ironduff Fire Service District boundaries in the Crabtree (community or township), pursuant to the “County Service District Act of 1973”, G.S. 153A-300 et seq.  If the proposed land is annexed to the district, the real and personal property therein will be subject to taxation as necessary (not to exceed $.10 per $100 valuation) to finance the proposed service.
  5. Extension of the Cruso Fire Service District to add territory to the present Cruso Fire Service District boundaries in the Cruso (community or township), pursuant to the “County Service District Act of 1973”, G.S. 153A-300 et seq.  If the proposed land is annexed to the district, the real and personal property therein will be subject to taxation as necessary (not to exceed $.10 per $100 valuation) to finance the proposed service.
  6. Extension of the Fines Creek Fire Service District to add territory to the present Fines Creek Fire Service District boundaries in the Fines Creek (community or township), pursuant to the “County Service District Act of 1973”, G.S. 153A-300 et seq.  If the proposed land is annexed to the district, the real and personal property therein will be subject to taxation as necessary (not to exceed $.10 per $100 valuation) to finance the proposed service.
  7. Extension of the Jonathan Creek Fire Service District to add territory to the present Jonathan Creek Fire Service District boundaries in the Jonathan Creek (community or township), pursuant to the “County Service District Act of 1973”, G.S. 153A-300 et seq.  If the proposed land is annexed to the district, the real and personal property therein will be subject to taxation as necessary (not to exceed $.08 per $100 valuation) to finance the proposed service.
  8. Extension of the Junaluska Fire Service District to add territory to the present Junaluska Fire Service District boundaries in the Waynesville (community or township), pursuant to the “County Service District Act of 1973”, G.S. 153A-300 et seq.  If the proposed land is annexed to the district, the real and personal property therein will be subject to taxation as necessary (not to exceed $.08 per $100 valuation) to finance the proposed service.
  9. Extension of the Lake Logan/Cecil Fire Service District to add territory to the present Lake Logan/Cecil Fire Service District boundaries in the Lake Logan (community or township), pursuant to the “County Service District Act of 1973”, G.S. 153A-300 et seq.  If the proposed land is annexed to the district, the real and personal property therein will be subject to taxation as necessary (not to exceed $.10 per $100 valuation) to finance the proposed service.
  10. Extension of the Maggie Valley Fire Service District to add territory to the present Maggie Valley Fire Service District boundaries in the Maggie Valley (community or township), pursuant to the “County Service District Act of 1973”, G.S. 153A-300 et seq.  If the proposed land is annexed to the district, the real and personal property therein will be subject to taxation as necessary (not to exceed $.10 per $100 valuation) to finance the proposed service.

A map showing the proposed district boundaries of each district and the report required by G.S. 153A-303(d) are available for inspection in the office of the County Manager.

 Persons wishing to be heard at the public hearing are asked to be present.  The County Commissioners may adopt reasonable rules governing the conduct of the hearing including (i) fixing the maximum time allotted to each speaker, (ii) providing for the designation of spokesperson for groups of persons supporting or opposing the same position, (iii) providing for the selection of delegates from groups of persons supporting or opposing the same positions when the number of persons wishing to attend the hearing exceeds the capacity of the hall, and (iv) providing for the maintenance of order and decorum in the conduct of the hearing.
