POSITION LOCATION: Health Department Dental Clinic

SALARY RANGE: $26,132.66 - $39,197.85

Description of Duties: To administer, manage and support the efficient operation of a dental program consisting of one Dentist, one Hygienist, two dental assistants, one Processing Assistant IV, contract dental professionals, and students. Plans, develops and executes special projects/programs related to dental services.

Examples of Duties:  Supervises front desk operations/participates in the oversight of employees, volunteers and students.  In coordination with dentist, sets and manages all clinic work and/or patient schedules.  Receives and verifies time edits for accuracy and coordinates time off for all staff to minimize patient care interruption.  Conducts annual performance evaluations, administers disciplinary action as needed, hires and ensures retention of front desk staff and/or dental assistants.  Develops/revises work procedures/methods, including necessary forms design and trains employees in work procedures.  Assists Dentist with development and monitors Dental Administrative Services budget.  Composes/drafts correspondence, policies and procedures and presentations.  Attends Management Team meetings/interacts with Department supervisors outside of the dental section.  Coordinates and conducts meetings, and/or conferences to determine service line and customer/client satisfaction with services.  Oversees dental program’s information technology needs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: General knowledge of office management techniques; and ability to practice effective communication techniques both orally and in writing; effective supervisory practices and ability to plan and supervise the work of others. Ability to analyze and interpret policy and procedural guidelines and to resolve problems and questions. Skills in organizing work flow and coordinating activities. The ability to work effectively with people from a variety of educational and cultural backgrounds. Minimum Education and Experience: Graduation from high school and demonstrated possession of knowledge, skills and abilities gained through at least three years of office assistant/secretarial experience; or completion of a two-year secretarial science or business administration program with one year of responsible experience as described above; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
