PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: The Income Maintenance Caseworker II ( IMC ) of the  Adult

Assistance Programs Section is responsible for performing the two functions of  intake and determination of new

applications for the four income maintenance programs of  Medical Assistance to the Aged, Blind and Disabled,

including all subcategories, County Special Assistance, Community Alternatives Program (CAP); Medicaid Long

Term Care program and the Food Stamp program.  Also, perform the function of eligibility re-determination or

review of the recipient’s case on a periodic basis in order  to re-verify the recipient’s eligibility for continued

participation. The Food Stamp program consists of all individuals who are aged, blind, disabled and/or 50 or over .

 

DESCRIPTION OF WORK:  Work involves direct contact with the client and direct or indirect contact with the

client’s family or representative and collaterals in order to gather and verify any information necessary to determine

client’s eligibility for the programs. Employee’s decisions are usually subject to a second or third party review. 

Employees are seen as representatives of the agency and eligibility decisions commit the agency to providing

clients with public assistance. An IMC II in the Adult Assistance Programs Section does initial intake and processes

applications and assessments, does re-determination of eligibility, takes action on change and as necessary,

completes program transfers in the following programs and subcategories:

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  For IMC-IGraduation from an accredited Associate Degree Program in Human Services Technology, Social Services Associate, Paralegal Technology, Business Administration, Secretarial Science , or a closely related curriculum; OR Graduation from high school and two years of paraprofessional, clerical, or other public contact experience which included negotiating, performance of mathematical or legal tasks with at least one year of such experience being in an Income Maintenance program; OR Graduation from high school and three years of paraprofessional, clerical or other public contact experience which included negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, the gathering and compiling of data, the analysis of data and/or the performance of mathematical or legal tasks; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.  FOR IMC-II—Considerable knowledge of the program/area(s) of assignment; general knowledge of all agency and community programs and services which could affect the client/applicant; good mathematical reasoning and procedures; ability to communicate with clients/applicants, the public at large and public officials to obtain data, and to explain and interpret rules, regulations and procedures; ability to instruct and to evaluate the work of lower level employees; and ability to perform caseworker functions within structured time frames. 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  One year of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Will Consider Work Against for position.  Requires one year of eligibility experience to fully qualify for IMC-II.  Work-against salary for IMC-I is Grade 61- $25,545.12. 

 ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:  Must have a driver’s license and full-time access to a vehicle. Applicants should include at least ten years of work experience on the completed application (if applicable)
