Location: Haywood County Emergency Medical Services Department


General Description of Position:

This position will provide routine and specialized emergency care.  The position is responsible for serving as an EMT-Intermediate or Paramedic on a two-person advanced life support team and other emergency service related duties as assigned.

Minimum Training and Experience:

Requires high school diploma, GED and associate's degree or vocational technical degree or specialized training that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college education.  NCOEMS EMT-Intermediate or Paramedic, BLS, ACLS, ITLS or PHTLS, PEPP, PALS, EPC or AMLS may be required.  This position requires a minimum of six (6) months of emergency service experience or clinical experience.  Applicants must score a minimum of 70% on the entrance exam for the credential level.

PARAMEDIC credentials are preferred.

Work Hours/Benefits:

This is a part time position with a flexible schedule of 12 or 24 hours per shift.  Hours and shifts may vary.  Part time employees are required to work a minimum of 36 hours per calendar quarter and are preferred 12 hours of work per month.  Position requires that part time staff attend a minimum of 4 scheduled classes of Haywood County ALS Continuing Education per calendar year and maintain a minimum of 24 hours of ALS Continuing Education per year.  This position is not eligible for County benefits.

Rate of Pay:

The pay grade assigned to the Paramedic position is County Pay Grade 64 with a minimum hourly rate of $14.34 per hour.

The pay grade assigned to the EMT-Intermediate position is County Pay Grade 61 with a minimum hourly rate of $12.56 per hour.
