Park and Greenway Planning

In August 2007 Haywood County purchased a 22-acre parcel on Hwy. 276 in Jonathan Valley for a proposed multi-use recreational facility. The recently completed Comprehensive Master Plan for recreation identified a significant deficit in park land, especially in this area of the county, and a particular need for a facility that includes multiple softball/baseball fields, multi-purpose field, sand volleyball, splash pad, picnic shelters, walking trail, playground and disc golf. Recommendations on how to proceed with development of a park at this location will be included with a 10-year Capital Improvement Projects plan that is scheduled to be presented to the Board of County Commissioners in October 2007.

Master Plan for Proposed Jonathan Creek Park

Following is the recommended Master Plan for a proposed County Sports Complex. This design was supported by the Recreation Advisory Board and the majority of citizens who completed an online survey or attended the third Public Meeting on April 27. The proposed plan is expected to be presented to the Board of County Commissioners in July. While no funds are currently available to proceed with developing the park, approval of the Master Plan is a necessary step toward applying for grant funds.
