Flu vaccines will be available on a walk-in basis from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 10th and Monday, November 14th at the Haywood County Health Department, located at 2177 Asheville Highway in Waynesville. . The health department continues to have influenza vaccine and flu mist available for ages 6 months and up. This year’s flu vaccine will protect against the H1N1 strain of virus as well as other possible flu strains.

“Family members encourage those in your household who have not received their flu vaccine to come by on November 10th or November 14th because any type of influenza, no matter what strain, is a very serious disease at any age,” said Carmine Rocco, Haywood County Health Director.“So everyone over six months old needs to get their flu vaccine, because it is safe, effective, and the best way to prevent the flu.”

The cost for the flu vaccine is $28.00. The cost for the flu mist will be $35.00. Pneumonia will be available also for $45.00. The health department accepts full payment in cash or check, including credit and debit cards. The following insurances will be accepted: Medicare, Medicaid, Unicare, Humana, NC Health Choice, Today’s Option Pyramids, Medicare PPO insurances, Railroad Medicare, Aetna, BCBC, BCBS NC State Health Plan – if policies cover vaccines. The Haywood County Health Department will not be able to bill any other insurances including Tricare. Please bring your insurance cards when you come for the flu vaccine.
