The Board of Commissioners of Haywood County will hold a public hearing at 5:30 PM on September 19, 2011 at the Historic Haywood County Courthouse, 215 North Main Street, Waynesville, Haywood County North Carolina (the "County"), for the purpose of receiving public input on the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office grant application to receive funding through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program through the U.S. Office of Justice Programs.

Funding through the JAG program supports all components of the criminal justice system, from multijurisdictional drug and gang task forces to crime prevention and domestic violence programs, courts, corrections, treatment, and justice information sharing initiatives. JAG-funded projects may address crime through the provision of services directly to individuals and/or communities and by improving the effectiveness and efficiency of criminal justice systems, processes, and procedures.

Persons wishing to be heard at the public hearing are asked to be present.  The County Commissioners may adopt reasonable rules governing the conduct of the hearing including (i) fixing the maximum time allotted to each speaker, (ii) providing for the designation of spokesperson for groups of persons supporting or opposing the same position, (iii) providing for the selection of delegates from groups of persons supporting or opposing the same positions when the number of persons wishing to attend the hearing exceeds the capacity of the hall, and (iv) providing for the maintenance of order and decorum in the conduct of the hearing.

This the 9th day of September 2011.
