The Haywood County Tax Administration office will hold meetings on Wednesday, May 18 and Thursday, May 19 for elderly and disabled residents to help determine if they are eligible for property tax and other tax exemptions allowed by the N.C. General Assembly.

 

The first meeting will be at 4 p.m., Wednesday, May 18 at the Canton branch of the Haywood County Public Library. The second meeting will be a 4 p.m., Thursday, May 19 at the Waynesville branch library.

 

The purpose of each meeting is to provide an overview of the tax exemptions available to qualified elderly and disabled applicants, such as the Elderly and Disabled Exclusion, or Homestead Exclusion; the Disabled Veterans exclusion and the Circuit Breaker Program.

 

The deadline to apply for these exemptions is June 1. Applications, forms, complete eligibility guidelines are available on the Haywood County Tax Administration website or by contacting the Personal Property Division of the Assessor's Office at 452-6640.
