The public is invited to attend the 2011 Memorial Day Parade honoring Haywood County veterans at 1 p.m., Monday, May 30 in downtown Canton. Brandon Wilson, Haywood County’s Veterans Services Officer, is coordinating the event.

The parade will feature several National Guard and Reserve units, color guards, Civil War reenactors, and veterans’ organizations in Haywood County. ROTC units from Pisgah and Tuscola High Schools will also participate.

Wilson said he is hoping the event will provide an opportunity for as many veterans as possible to be recognized by walking, riding or sitting in special seating during the parade. He would also like to see as many vintage military vehicles as possible participate in the parade.

“I hope as many veterans as possible will participate this year and that anyone who can will wear their service uniform,” Wilson said.

In addition to the parade, there will be a number of activities to honor veterans going on in downtown Canton. Veterans seeking more information regarding the parade may contact the Veterans Service Office at 828.452.6634.
